Parenthood Therapy
Healing your wounds
will help you parent.
In parenthood therapy work, I focus on the concept of inner child work, reparenting, and conscious parenting to help heal wounds so that they are not projected onto and/or recreated in your own children.
I believe that parenthood invites us to look in the mirror and gives us an opportunity to help heal our own emotional wounds and unresolved issues from our past. Even the most loving and supportive parents are not always able to meet the emotional needs of their children. We are a product of our parents and your children will be a product of you. If you don’t look at what happened to you as a child, you won’t understand where your parenting comes from. I help explore how you were trained to become a parent and connect dots to find out what happened, how it effected you, and how it made a behavior, emotion, or thought happen.
Reparenting work means showing up for ourselves in ways that we needed someone to when we were a child. Missing needs from our childhood become the foundation to triggers later in life, especially as parents. Missing needs also often times make it difficult for parents to tolerate emotions in our children and difficult to show up for them in hard moments with empathy, compassion, and boundaries.
I help parents bring the unconscious to the conscious and recognize the connections between the sometimes unhappy emotions, thoughts, and behaviors we have as parents. My main goals in parenthood therapy work is to help slow down reflective responses that mirror unhealthy childhood experiences and to break unhealthy generational cycles. I help to untangle these complex relationships in a safe environment and promote self care and mindfulness.
I also try to support parents by bringing in psycho-education about childhood development and normalize child behavior when appropriate.
“We unconsciously repeat what we consciously don’t repair.”
